To The Stablehouse, 1642 Milligan Hill Road, Alto Pass, IL
From I-57 or I-55, a detailed description (and a simpler route from I-57 than shown on Mapquest):
From I-57 going south: Take exit 30 – IL-146 west to Anna. Turn right. In about 5 miles on 146 you’ll pass Wal-Mart and the next light is Hwy 51. Stay on SR 146 about a mile to a 4-way stop. Turn left and you will still be on SR 146 (or Main Street). Go about 5 or 6 miles through Jonesboro to SR 127 (watch for it – no stop sign) and turn right. (If you come to a dead end at Highway 3 in Ware you’ve gone about 6 miles too far.)
Go about 8 miles to Alto Pass. Go under an overpass on 127 and turn right where the sign says Bald Knob Cross. At stop sign turn right. Go about 1 mile to the fork in road (where sign says “Bald Knob Cross”) and stay to the right. Go about another mile to a row of mailboxes, an orange sign with the address and 'The Stablehouse' (next to a white sign - 4M Ranch) and a big red barn, all on the right side. Take that driveway and stay to the right. When you get to the circular drive and see the house and the barns, The Stablehouse is on the left, with the wagon wheel front porch.
From I-55: Take the MO-74 E exit (exit 95 going south) toward Cape Girardeau and stay right at the fork, crossing into Illinois over the Mississippi bridge. MO-74 becomes IL-146. Go almost 4 miles and turn left on IL-3. Go north about 12 miles and turn right on IL-146 in the village of Ware. Go another 5 miles to IL-127 and turn left (Dover Junction road house is on the right - if you get into Jonesboro you've gone too far). Take IL-127 north for 8 miles, under an underpass and almost immediately turn right (sign to Bald Knob). At stop sign turn right. Go about 1 mile to the fork in road (where sign says “Bald Knob Cross”) and stay to the right. Go about another mile to a row of mailboxes, a green sign that says J & M Quarter Horses and a big red barn, all on the right side. Take that driveway and stay to the right. When you get to the circular drive and see the house and the barns, The Stablehouse is on the left, with the longhorn steer skull above the door.
